Makeup and Motzei Shabbat immersion
June 21, 2006

Question

I was taught that when going to the mikva on Motzai Shabbat, all the preparations need to be done before Shabbat, including taking off all makeup. The problem is that this will be very noticeable on me since I always wear makeup on Shabbat. I am worried that people will know that I have to go to the mikva. Why can't I apply makeup as usual & just remove it Motzai Shabbat?

Answer

In this situation you may apply makeup before Shabbat. Be sure that you remove all the makeup before immersion on Motzei Shabbat (check before Shabbat that you will have the necessary supplies available to do this). As with every tevilah, make sure to do a proper iyun (inspection) of both your body and your face before immersing.
