Onot after “fluke” period on Mirena
29/11/2021

Question

Hello, I have had a mirena iud for quite some time and haven’t gotten a period or even had any major spotting for over 8 years. I haven’t been in niddah at all in that entire time. Today I got my period. It’s extremely light but it was enough to make me a niddah. I’m just wondering how this affects the onah/veset days as I don’t have anything on my calendar for years. Do I have to do a bedika in 30 days as well as next month on this Hebrew date? I’m almost positive this is a fluke and I won’t be menstruating regularly.
Thank you for any help.

Answer

If the bleeding was enough to be considered a flow and render you niddah, you should observe the yom hachodesh and the onah beinonit from this period, even if you suspect it was just a fluke. You will observe the yom haflagah as well if you have another period.
