Onot after Mirena replacement
May 8, 2016

Question

I recently had my Mirena IUD replaced. With my first Mirena, I did not skip any periods. But this time I did not bleed or stain at all during the time I expected to be menstruating.
I am wondering how to handle this halachically. Should I be observing the onot days?
Thank you so much.

Answer

if you have not had further bleeding since you last observed onot veset, there is no further requirement to observe onot now. Relations are permissible until you next become niddah. Sometimes women skip periods for months or even years on Mirena.
Since Mirena can also be associated with irregular staining, you may wish to review our site’s articles on stains to avoid becoming niddah unnecessarily.
