Stain-free pill?
December 13, 2017

Question

Is there any pill which is stain-free and also reliable for contraception?

Answer

In making a choice about a contraceptive pill, it is critical to consult your physician so that he or she can take your needs and medical history fully into account.
Combination estrogen and progesterone pills tend to lead to less staining than pills with progesterone alone. Among combination pills, those with formulations including higher estrogen levels are associated with less staining. In preventing pregnancy, combination pills are highly efficacious (over 99% if one does not forget to take them), as are progesterone only pills when used during nursing.
In all pills, some staining is fairly common as the body adjusts in the first two to three months of use. It is important to note that not all staining makes a woman niddah. (For more information, see our articles "Stains" and "Toilet Paper.")
