Veset haflagah at four months pregnant
September 21, 2012

Question

I am now four months pregnant. Prior to that, I had very irregular periods (always longer than 40 days), so I was told to keep only the onat haflagah and not the other onot. The cycle right before I became pregnant, I did not get my period for 4-5 months (for no apparent reason). Therefore, my first onat haflagah is coming up in about two weeks (at 17 weeks pregnant), and I have not observed any onot at all since I became pregnant (because I do not do the yom hachodesh or onah beinonit). Do I have to observe the upcoming onat haflagah?

Answer

B'Sha'ah tovah!

Once the initial three months of pregnancy have passed, you are considered according to all opinions to have the status of a 'mesuleket damim' (one who doesn't bleed). A mesuleket damim is not required to observe vesatot, even a long veset haflagah that has not been uprooted. Therefore, you need not observe your upcoming veset.
