Mikveh segulah for infertility

Question

My wife is in her 7th month of pregnancy. A co-worker of hers, who is trying to have children, told her that there is a segulah for a woman trying to conceive to go to the mikvah with/immediately after a woman who is in her 9th month of pregnancy. She asked if she could go with my wife at that time.

My wife was a bit taken aback by this request and in general we are not so into these types of segulahs but just wondering if you have any sources/have ever heard of such customs, what the basis is, and what you would recommend. Thanks for any input on this topic.

Answer

B’sha’ah tovah!

We are not familiar with a custom to immerse along with a pregnant woman. Some have the custom to immerse directly after a pregnant woman, and some consider this a segulah.

Your wife should only do this if she feels comfortable with it. We are not aware of a halachic source for this custom, although it is in practice in some communities.

A woman who is already tehorah, and is immersing only for spiritual purposes or as a segulah, does not recite a bracha on the immersion and need not undertake all the usual preparations.
