Post-menstrual brown staining

Question

I typically wait until Day 6 of my period before performing a hefsek tahara because I know that I always have remnants following Day 5. Because I don’t want to be overly strict, I decided to do a hefsek on Day 5 this month. The hefsek was clear. The next day (Day 1 of white days) my bedika was again clear, but at night, tannish–brown. In the morning of Day 2, I woke up with stains on my white underwear. They were brown streaks; each streak smaller than the size of dime. My bedika was a much lighter tan.

My question is: because I am prone to these remnants (which, a rav every month has said are pure, and not blood), is it safe to say that I may perform the hefsek on Day 5, rather than Day 6, even though the bedika is ALWAYS brown on Day 1 of the white days, which is what would be Day 6 of my period?

Answer

A light brown with no hint of a reddish tint is not a niddah color. Therefore, its presence on a hefsek taharah, bedikah cloth, undergarment, or body part does not interfere with the process of becoming tehorah and should not delay it.

Based on what you write, you should be attempting a hefsek taharah on day five in general and your current clean days continue as planned.
