Treating yeast infection on Shabbat
January 12, 2011

Question

Hi,
Thank you so much for providing this service.
Can you let me know if it is permissible to treat a yeast infection (by plunging medicine into the vagina) on Shabbos? It is a 7–day medication that I am supposed to take before I go to bed, to minimize leakage. Is it preferable for me to take the Friday night dose right before Shabbos begins, instead?
Thank you.

Answer

It is permissible to insert the applicator and squeeze out the cream into the vagina on Shabbat.
