We are glad you reached out to us for support and guidance at this time. Indeed, the current situation is difficult in many ways, and your fear of immersing in a mikveh without a safe space or shelter nearby is completely understandable.
On our page "
Taharat Hamishpacha in Wartime," we address mikveh immersion when there are safety concerns, and suggest several ways to immerse quickly and safely. You may find some helpful ideas there that could make immersion work for you under the circumstances.
We also discuss the option of immersing during the day, after the seven clean days have been completed, which may be less complicated. Although immersion usually only takes place at night, during wartime – when going out at night can be more dangerous –
daytime immersion is permissible, though it must be arranged in advance with the mikveh.
Please call us on our telephone
hotline to talk out the different possibilities, or write back to us with your location, so that we may help facilitate a safe immersion for you.
Ordinarily, immersion should not be delayed, but it is permissible in case of need. If you and your husband feel that immersion at this time is not safe, you may delay until you feel more comfortable with the available options. You do not need to decide now that that you won’t immerse at all this month.
If you delay immersion, you should complete counting the
seven clean days as usual. Afterward, you may switch to colored underwear, and no further
bedikot are required. All the
restrictions of
niddah remain in place until immersion.
May we share good news soon!
