Bedikot when prone to infections
24/03/2021

Question

Hi, Thank you so much for giving your time! I am very prone to vaginal infections and have a long medical history. I need to ensure that I keep the correct balance to avoid discomfort and infections. As part of this protocol, I have not done all the bedikas during the 7 white days, relying on a little more than the minimum number of bedikas, as written in several books on the subject. This past month, to celebrate Nissan – the month of female guilt, I decided to do all the bedikas. Two days after going to the mikva, I have a terrible yeast infection. I feel like I must officially ask if its OK for me to not do all the bedikas. Wiping internally twice a day for a whole week wreaks havoc for me. Please let me know. Many many thanks and chag sameach!

Answer

We are sorry to hear of your history of infection, and that bedikot have sometimes exacerbated the situation.
In your case, you should perform no more than the hefsek taharah (omitting the moch dachuk) and one bedikah each on days one, seven, and an intermediate day of the clean days.
Halachah takes health concerns into account, so this is the preferred halachic practice for you, and something you can confidently rely on.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
Refuah sheleimah, and chag kasher vesameach!
