Children at parent’s wedding
June 13, 2011

Question

I have a question about a related topic. I am a divorced mother of 2 children ages 8 and 10 and will be remarrying in the next few months. We are beginning to plan the wedding and I have heard that there is a halacha for children not to attend the chuppah of their parents. They may attend the tish, bedeken, and party, but not the chuppah itself. Are you familiar with this? Do you know if this is a halacha or if it is a tradition?

Thanks.

Answer

Mazal tov on your upcoming wedding!

There is a minhag for children not to attend a parent's chuppah. This minhag is not universally observed. We suggest you consult your local rabbi or your mesader kiddushin about whether you should follow it.
