Question

I am getting married, b’h, second time. I am 55 and still menstruating albeit not as frequently. Do I need to worry about contraception, and if yes, which would be best to take? My chatan is healthy and in his early 60s, he had no fertility issues and has several children. I did have fertility issues and had to go through IVF to have my children. I’ve been reading about contraception and was surprised to find out that spermicides are ok to use, but I do want to get the best and easiest one to use, without hormones so that I can avoid spotting.

Given your circumstances it is possible that you may not need to use birth control. Please consult with your physician about this. It is often possible to test hormonal levels to see whether you need to use contraception. If you want to be on the safe side and use contraception until you can consult with your doctor, we recommend using spermicide such as VCF (Vaginal Contraceptive Film).
