Cotton-enhanced wipes
March 4, 2021

Question

Can baby wipes be mekabel tum’ah? It says on the package it is “cotton enhanced” so I assumed these could though I have heard others do not.

Answer

There is debate about whether wipes are mekabel tumah (susceptible to ritual impurity, so that stains found on them could be halachically significant). Our site’s rabbinic supervisor follows the view that wipes are not mekabel tumah, as long as they are less than 50% cotton.

Disposable wipes that are not mekabel tumah are halachically comparable to toilet paper.
