Feet touching the mikveh floor
December 29, 2002

Question

When I immersed in the mikva last month, the attendant said my feet were touching the floor when I went under. I can curl up in the fetal position for a brief moment, but I find it pretty hard to maintain that position until my head pops out of the water. Is there a problem with that? Thank you!

Answer

In a regular mikveh where you are not standing on mud, you do not need to make a special effort to lift your feet off the floor. They are considered to be in contact with the mikveh water because they are already wet. As long as you are standing normally on the floor of the mikveh, the immersion is valid.
