Hefsek after lighting Shabbat candles
February 21, 2016

Question

On Friday, I lit Shabbos candles and then realized I hadn't yet done my hefsek taharah. I did the hefsek taharah before sunset and it came out fine. But I had already accepted Shabbos – is that ok?

Answer

It is preferable to perform a hefsek taharah before lighting Shabbat candles. However, even if you only remembered to perform the hefsek after candle lighting, it is valid as long as it was performed before sunset.
