Immersion with bleeding cut
August 26, 2013

Question

Can a person go to the mikveh with a cut on the fingertip that has not healed completely? There is no hanging skin. No scab. No stitches. However it does bleed when un–bandaged.

Answer

Yes, a woman may immerse with an open cut. Wet blood does not constitute a chatzitza. The cut should be cleaned off prior to immersion. To prevent actual bleeding into the mikveh, one should apply pressure to the cut prior to immersion.

To avoid any possibility of infection, the cut should also be cleaned with soap and water after immersion.
