Mikveh after laser eye surgery
November 12, 2012

Question

I had laser surgery on my eyes and I was told not to allow water to touch my eyes for a month, but need to go to mikvah within the month. Am I allowed to close my eyes more tightly to go to the mikvah? Can I immerse only once this time even though I normally do it 3 times?

Appreciate the help…

Answer

You may immerse just once given your circumstances. It is preferable to just close your eyes gently and not squeeze them shut. Ask your doctor whether one brief dip with your eyes gently shut would be medically permitted. If your doctor does not feel that it would be safe for you, please get back to us with more details of your doctor's recommendations.
