PCOS and early ovulation

Question

I’ve been trying to conceive for about two and a half years. After consulting with a doctor, it looks like I’m ovulating on day 12 in the morning. I do my hefsek tahara on day 5. My husband is ashkenazi. Can you ask for me for psak halacha if I can do my hefsek taharah, in my circumstance, on day 4? I don’t know if it matters, I was also diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Do you have any other recommendations for me? Thank you very much in advance.

Answer

We are sorry to hear of your difficulty conceiving.

In this case, you may perform a hefsek taharah on the fourth day. If this does not result in pregnancy within a few months, we suggest consulting a fertility specialist for guidance if you have not already. This is because PCOS can affect fertility, and treatment of PCOS can often help a woman to conceive.
