Sheva brachot and premarital relations
January 26, 2012

Question

Hello,

I am engaged to a Jewish boy, who has been my boyfriend now for a long time. We are both baal teshuvas and have been shomer negiah for about two years.

This is the first marriage for both of us, but we did have premarital relations about two years ago. My question is, can we do seven days of shevah brochos or only the first day? If only the first day – does that mean all the wedding guests will find out about our previous history?

Thank you very very much in advance!

Answer

Mazal tov on your upcoming marriage!

When either or both members of the couple have never been married before, even if they have been intimate together in the past, sheva brachot are still recited for seven nights.
