Stain on bathroom floor
January 4, 2024

Question

Before showering last night, I used the bathroom, wiped and then got up to walk to the shower. I felt a slight trickle down one of my legs but I didn’t look, stepped into the shower and began washing myself as usual. During the shower I noticed two drops of pinkish/reddish liquid on the stone bathroom floor between the toilet and the shower. I did not see anything leave my body, nor did I see any stains on my body or on any other area of the bathroom.

What is my status?

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Based on your description, that the only sensation you felt was wetness on a leg and the only thing that you saw was on the stone bathroom floor, you are not considered niddah.

Stone (and flooring in general) is considered a surface that is not susceptible to ritual impurity, so stains on it do not make a woman niddah. Learn more here.

As a precaution against a flow beginning during relations, we usually advise refraining from relations for a day or so after non-niddah staining. This is a recommendation and not a halachic requirement.
