Stain on honeymoon vacation
January 7, 2016

Question

Tonight is the first night of a special honeymoon vacation with my husband, and I noticed a stain on my underwear. This came as a big shock to me, as I wasn't expecting to be getting my period now. The stain was found on colored underwear and is a dark reddish brown (definitely not bright red), although it is probably just a little bit bigger than a dime. I understand that I should show a rabbi asap (although I'm not sure who to turn to while away on vacation– probably the rabbi at the nearest chabad). If there is any advice you can suggest, that would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

Based on your description, the stain did not make you niddah, because it was found on colored underwear.

We usually advise that women with non-niddah stains such as yours abstain from relations for a day, as a precaution against a flow beginning during relations. Please note that this is a recommendation and not a strict halachic requirement. You can make a decision taking your personal considerations (your vacation, whether you are confident a flow will not begin) into account. Make sure to follow the usual precautions against becoming niddah unnecessarily from staining.

Please write back with any further questions.
