Very faint pink on toilet paper
January 7, 2016

Question

I did a successful hefsek taharah on Tuesday late afternoon and a successful moch and first bedikah subsequently. Then, on Wednesday during the day, I went to the bathroom to urinate and wiped myself and accidentally looked at the toilet paper. I didn’t wipe immediately after I finished urinating, nor was it a full 15 seconds — probably closer to 3 or 4 seconds or less. It appeared to me to be the faintest faintest light pink color. I quickly got scared and looked away and flushed it. The lighting was only OK, I got only the slightest look at it…

Where does this leave me with my seven clean days?

Answer

Our current rabbinic supervisor, Rav Kenneth Auman, rules that if a woman waited at least a few seconds after urinating before wiping, she may disregard discharge she sees on the toilet paper (see more here). Therefore, you do not need to worry about what you saw and should continue the clean days as planned.

(Note that, in general, pink is a niddah color. However, pale pink needs to be evaluated under good lighting – preferably daylight, in the shade. Various types of artificial light can make colors seem either more or less reddish than they would appear in sunlight. See more here.)
