Long walk to mikveh on Shabbat
January 26, 2017

Question

We are trying to conceive. This menstrual cycle I have been using ovulation tests and the test said I'm ovulating today, but my mikvah night isn't until tomorrow night (Shabbat) and I'm not sure what to do.

Another tricky thing is that the mikvah is a three mile walk from where I live and there's no eruv, and I don't know the area well but can't carry a map. I've never done the walk alone before but my husband is a resident and will be working.

Answer

Relations within a day of ovulation can result in conception. In this case, you can drive to the mikveh before Shabbat and possibly recruit a friend to walk back with you. It would be permissible to tell a friend about mikveh for this purpose.
