Blizzard forecast for mikveh night
January 31, 2021

Question

Shavua Tov!

Monday of this coming week will be my 7th white day, making Monday night my mikvah night. However, there is a massive blizzard that is supposed to arrive on Sunday night here and go until Tuesday. I’m concerned that the mikvah might not be open Monday night and even if they were, I’m not sure I could get there. In this case only, am I allowed to go to the mikvah on Sunday before the storm gets really heavy, or do I wait until Tuesday night?

Of course, if I see it’s not so bad I will go Monday night, but the number of inches keeps rising and I’m concerned. I have not yet asked my rav (as I’m embarrassed to) I just want to know what I should do should the situation come up.

Answer

You may not immerse on Sunday night because your seven clean days will not yet have been completed. Tevilah on Sunday night would not be valid.

If you cannot get safely to and from the mikveh on Monday night, or if the mikveh is closed, you will need to delay tevilah until Tuesday night (assuming you can get to mikveh safely that night).
