I live far from the mikveh. Can I immerse on Friday before Shabbat?
April 24, 2023

Question

I live about a half an hour drive from the closest mikva. I got my period today, so 12 days will be next Friday night. We’re trying to conceive, so I don’t want to wait until day 13. I noticed the discussion on Instagram about going during the day on erev pesach, and I was wondering if I could go Friday morning.

Answer

Given the circumstances, that you have no mikveh within walking distance and that you are trying to conceive, there is room to permit immersion late Friday afternoon, allowing yourself enough time to make it home for candle lighting. Your husband should be out of the house when you return, and you may not see each other until after nightfall. You should discuss this with the mikveh attendant in advance to arrange the logistics.
