Immersing early due to travel plans?
April 3, 2016

Question

I know the answer is probably no, but I figured it can't hurt to ask. Mikveh night will fall out for me on motzei Shabbos. We are going away this Shabbos, and at the moment it doesn't seem I can go on motzei Shabbos, and I'm not sure Sunday will work either, as we will be on the way back home. Is there any way I can go to the mikveh this Thursday night, and continue acting as niddah until motzei Shabbos? Would it make any difference if I can do it without telling my husband until motzei Shabbos? I'm loathe to leave it until Monday because as it is, I usually start spotting a week and a half after I've gone to mikveh, and get my period soon after.

Answer

Unfortunately, until the seven clean days have been completed, tevilah is not valid. Therefore, an immersion Thursday night would not be valid, and you would remain in niddah. Not telling your husband would not help.

You can try to contact the mikvaot in the locations where you will be Motzai Shabbat and/or Sunday night to see if you can schedule an appointment at a time that will work for you.

If neither of those options work out, unfortunately you will need to delay immersion until Monday night.
