Immersion with fungal infection
February 9, 2015

Question

I was diagnosed with a fungal infection today and am supposed to be going to the mikve tomorrow evening. Is there any chance of me contaminating the mikva? Also, should I refrain from intercourse after the mikva until the infection clears up?

Answer

The mikveh waters are usually sufficiently chlorinated to prevent spread of germs or infection. You could ask to be last one to immerse that night just to be sure.

You should speak to your doctor about whether having intercourse is advisable until the fungal infection clears up. Often it causes pain or discomfort during intercourse, but may be medically permitted.
