Irregular period going off pill
August 11, 2015

Question

I recently went off birth control pills to try to get pregnant. My period (I don't even know if it was really considered a period) was very unusual. I had bleeding for a day and a half and it was 5 days later than expected. I am not pregnant. How do I go about counting and when should I plan to go to the Mikvah? Thank you for providing a safe and confidential place to ask such an important yet private question.

Answer

It is common to experience irregular periods for a few months after going off the pill.
You will treat this as a regular period – waiting the minimum days from when you became niddah before performing the hefsek taharah, counting seven clean days and immersing.
You will calculate your onot as usual from this period as well.
