IUD removal post-menopause
28/04/2021

Question

I have been through menopause and no longer have monthly periods. Yesterday I went to the gynecologist to have my IUD removed, following which there was a little bleeding; I have had no bleeding today. Am I niddah?

Answer

We follow the viewpoint that the removal procedure itself does not make a woman niddah, and that bleeding a day or so following IUD removal may be attributed to trauma from the procedure. It is thus considered dam makkah, blood from a wound, and not dam niddah.
Therefore, the bleeding that you had did not make you niddah. No further halachic steps are necessary.
