Long cycles, conception, and mikveh
February 18, 2020

Question

For the past few months (since I went off of birth control pills), my cycles have been regularly every 6 weeks. I have been counting and going to Mikva as usual, but since I am trying to conceive (2nd child), I wanted to make sure it shouldn’t be affecting which night I go to Mikva since I am not ovulating near Mikva night (rather two weeks later). I didn’t think it would change things, but just wanted to make sure!

Answer

Although it adds to the significance of mikveh night when it falls during a woman’s fertile window, halacha does not require that this take place. You should continue to immerse on time.
Cycle changes such as you describe are fairly common in the first few months after going off a contraceptive pill. Even so, you may wish to check in with your physician about your long cycles in order to help optimize your chance of conceiving.
