Oophorectomy after menopause
June 10, 2013

Question

I had a salpingo–oophorectomy done laparoscopically and scraping of the uterus for testing. Does the bleeding require immersion in the mikveh? I had stopped going a year ago.
Thank you

Answer

A laparoscopic procedure such as you describe does not usually make a woman niddah after she has stopped menstruating. So too, blood resulting from scraping the uterus, especially given that you have had a year without bleeding.
Therefore, unless bleeding persists beyond the expected window described by your physician (in which case please contact us), you are not considered niddah.
Refuah sheleimah!
