Postpartum staining
October 25, 2017

Question

I am 3 1⁄2 weeks after birth. I have stopped bleeding but keep staining. (I am still wearing pads)
Is there anything I can do to stop the staining so I can start the 7 clean days?

Answer

Mazal tov on the birth of your baby!
The median duration of postpartum bleeding is four weeks, and it can sometimes continue for eight weeks or more. It is also common for such bleeding or staining to stop and start.
Although it is a challenge to be in niddah for a long time after birth, what you describe is normal and does not warrant medical intervention at this stage. If you are still staining at your postpartum check up, please discuss further with your physician.
