Separation process

Question

This is a little bit outside of your usual area, I think, but my husband and I are looking at a (trial?) separation. We have not been intimate in over 3 months; the beds have been apart since then. He finally moved out recently but now wants to come back to the house several nights per week. This thought makes me uncomfortable and I wondered if there is anything in halacha that would make such an arrangement undesirable.

Answer

We are sorry to hear of your separation.

As long as you are married, there is no halachic constraint on your living together.

If you have not yet pursued it, we recommend couple’s counseling. Even when a marriage cannot be saved, good therapy can help a couple make wise decisions about its dissolution.
