Sephardi custom: four or five days?
July 11, 2007

Question

I am teaching a kallah who is to be married to a Sephardic boy. Can she do her hefsek taharah as early as day four of niddah, or does she wait until day five?

Answer

Among Sephardim, practices regarding the minimum number of days to wait to perform the hefsek taharah and begin counting the seven clean days vary from community to community. The kallah you are teaching should consult with the chatan regarding his family's practice.
