Wine at seder when pregnant
April 10, 2006

Question

I have always used wine for the Arbah Kosos on Pesach; however I am 7 weeks pregnant now, B”H. My doctor advised me not to use wine this Pesach. We will be spending Pesach at my parents home, with other relatives, and if I were to use grape juice, it will be obvious as to my condition, which we would like to keep private until three months. What do you suggest?

Thank you very much, wonderful site!

Answer

We suggest you buy a bottle or two of special, sparkling grape juice and explain that you absolutely love it and that wine makes you too sleepy or headachy to enjoy the Seder.

A reader suggests: Before yom tov, pour grape juice into a wine bottle and no one will know: Just you use that one.
