Cutting sheitel during sefirah
April 19, 2009

Question

Am I allowed to have a shaitel cut during sefirah? I did not have time before Pesach to have it cut, and I did wear it one time on Yom Tov.

Answer

Yes, you may have your sheitel cut during sefirah, especially if it is recognizable as a sheitel. The sheitel is considered a garment, so cutting it is not halachically considered haircutting. Parenthetically, in the nine days, you should refrain from washing the sheitel, just as you would refrain from washing a garment.
