Hair color in Nine Days
July 9, 2025

Question

Is a woman allowed to have her hair (not a wig) colored during the nine days?

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.

It is permissible to dye one’s hair during the Nine Days, much as it is permissible to wear makeup, especially if otherwise a woman will feel uncomfortable about her appearance.

However, in the spirit of mourning, it would be preferable to dye it either before the Nine Days begin, or after Tisha B’Av.
