Stain before relations, period next morning
March 21, 2016

Question

I usually get my period every 28 days or so. This month, I noticed a stain a bit early – 23 days. I had no hargashah and suffer from other vaginal health issues. In the past, I had staining and then nothing for days until my period actually came – I thought this was the case this time as well.
My husband and I hadn't had relations in days and I knew that he was planning to be together. (I am the one who pushes for separation and mikvah each month). I showered and made sure I was clean beforehand, but the next morning, I clearly see that I am niddah.
Despite my poor judgement this time (to try to please my husband and get him thru yet another 12 days of separation), can I still keep taharah this month?

Answer

Not all stains render a woman niddah. It is definitely possible that the stain you found did not make you niddah, and if you then checked before intercourse and were clean, you may not have transgressed at all, even though your period began the next morning.
In any case, you certainly are allowed to (and should!) observe the niddah period and taharah process this month. In this situation there is no difference in the process; you should observe the five day minimum from the morning you considered yourself niddah before counting the seven clean days and immersing.
Even if a woman were to transgress and engage in relations during her period or during the clean days, G-d forbid, she should still complete the taharah process. There may be some minor changes, so an individual question should be asked.
