Clean days after D&C
August 14, 2014

Question

I am 41 years old and had a D&C for excessive uterine bleeding. A miscarriage has been ruled out. I am wondering when I can go to Mikva and when to start the seven clean days. The doctor advised against tampons for 2 weeks and the area is somewhat irritated.

Answer

Inserting a bedikah cloth briefly is not the same as wearing a tampon. In this case, you may perform a hefsek taharah as soon as possible, omitting the moch dachuk. The hefsek taharah and subsequent bedikot of this cycle should not be performed more deeply than is comfortable. Additionally, you may reduce the amount of bedikot performed to one per day on day one, day seven, and one of the intermediate days.

We wish you a refuah sheleimah. Please write back with any further questions and please don't hesitate to check this with your physician.
