Marital relations with ovulation on 9th of Av on Shabbat
July 20, 2015

Question

I am having treatment for infertility (taking clomid) and it looks like I may ovulate Friday-Saturday, which is the 9th of Av. I wanted to know, under the circumstances would we still need to refrain from intimacy?

Answer

There is halachic debate as to whether relations are permitted on the 9th of Av when it falls on Shabbat and the fast is delayed until Sunday. In your situation, relations would be permissible. On Saturday night and Sunday, when the fast of Tisha B’Av is actually observed, relations are prohibited.
