Vertigo with pregnancy on Tisha B\’Av
25/07/2024

Question

Hi, I'll be 36 weeks come Tisha b'Av. I was just diagnosed with vertigo and my doctor said that if I'm still feeling this dizzy then I shouldn't fast and that I must stay hydrated.

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.
In this case, you should not fast. It would be appropriate to refrain from sweets or extra indulgences on Tish'a B'Av, but you may eat as much as needed to feel comfortable.
When you eat, keep in mind that it is in fulfillment of the mitzva "v'chai bahem" of living and preserving life through observance of mitzvot.
Besha'ah tovah!
