I am in the middle of fertility treatments after several miscarriages. My two week wait officially ends on Tisha B’av so I do not yet know if I am pregnant. My doctor said I should not take any risks and she strongly recommends not fasting, both because I am in high risk category and because I am taking medicines which can make it easier to get dehydrated. Is there any heter to start out not fasting or would I need to wait till I don’t feel well to ask a shaylah? Thank you.
We are sorry to hear of your miscarrieages and wish you success with your treatment.
In this case, given that your physician cautions against fasting, and the potential dehydrating effects of your medication, you should not fast.
As you navigate treatment, you may also find it helpful to arrange a free consultation with a Yoetzet Halacha Fertility Counselor, details here.
