Fasting and fertility treatment

20 July, 2016

I am in the middle of fertility treatments after several miscarriages. My two week wait officially ends on Sunday/Tisha B'av so I do not yet know if I am pregnant. My doctor said I should not take any risks and she strongly recommends not fasting, both because I am in high risk category and because I am taking medicines which can make it easier to get dehydrated. Is there any heter to start out not fasting or would I need to wait till I don't feel well to ask a shaylah? Thank you.

In this case, especially given that Tisha B'Av observance is delayed to Sunday this year, that your physician cautions against fasting, and the potential dehydrating effects of your medication, you should not fast.

We wish you success with your treatments.
